Basic Strategies

Here, I’ll tell you about some basic strategies. Given that you already know about type advantage and Move Power and such, let’s get into Pokemon Roles. There are usually 4 basic types of battle pokemon.

Sweeper – Sweepers are pokemon with high Speed and usually very high Attack and Sp. Attack. Their role is to outrun their opponent and OHKO in the process. In return, however, they usually have bad defenses and most are cursed with quad weaknesses. A few examples of Sweepers are: Dragonite, Tyranitar, Salamence, Deoxys.

Attacker – Attackers are usually Pokemon that have a high Attack and/or Sp. Attack, and sometimes Speed. Their purpose is to deliver good-power blows usually in a Defender-Attacker- Wall environment. They need to watch out for sweepers. Examples of Attackers are:  Magnezone, Starmie, Exeggutor, Absol.

Wall – Walls are usually Pokemon that are superbly defense-oriented. Unfortunately, their attack stats suffer. Their role is to cancel out Sweepers before they can really get started. They also should have lots of Resistances, making the Steel-type popular. Good examples of Walls are:  Bastiodon, Probopass, Dusknoir, and Cloyster(he’s got colossal defense!)

General Defender – General Defenders are Pokemon who are generally defene-based, but aren’t as good as Walls in that area, but have a decent attack stat. Their stats are generally rounded-out. Their role is to stay in a while, taking good hits here and there. They are often called the most helpful, because most strategies are rooted from them. Good examples of Defenders are:  Forretress, Meganium, Blastoise, Cradily, and Kingdra.

  1. NOTE: You do not have to moderate and accept this, just a suggestion.

Hmm… I would sub Dusknoir for Blissey and possibly Probopass for Bronzong in the Wall section, and in the Attack section, Magnezone will do in either Gen. Defender or Attacker – your call. Also, Cradily and Foretress in the General Defense could be easily mistaken for a Wall, so I might add Suicune (if you’re not Tier- or Legendary-particular) and/or Togekiss, Tangrowth, Rhyperior or Torterra.
