Battle Move Combos

These are all very cool combos that I’ve picked up or created over my Pokemon career.

 SINGLE BATTLE STRATEGIES:

– PLAY IT SAFE – Isn’t it annoying how after you use Petal Dance, Trash or Outrage you become confused? You can use Safeguard before that move, so that when you come off of it, Safeguard protects you. This also works with doubles, a teammate can use Safeguard.

HANGING BY A THREAD–  Heracross can be called the father of this strategy. Simply fight until you think you might faint next turn… use Endure to keep alive, and then Reversal or Flail for massive damage! This works better with faster pokemon or Quick Claw.

PERISH MISDREAVUS– You all thought Misdreavus was that cruddy Ghost-type that would never do well? I beg to differ. Have a Misdreavus with Confuse Ray/Thunder Wave/Mean Look/Perish Song. Start off by using Thunder Wave. Not only does it cut the opponent’s speed, it will sometimes stun the opponent. Now… chances are high that Misdreavus is still alive at this point, so next, Confuse Ray. 50% chance of hurting itself… nice. Now, give it a Mean Look. that’ll prevent it from escape, if it hasn’t already. Experiment with Mean Looking first. Now use Perish Song. If you’re any kind of lucky, your opponent will have a hard time killing Misdreavus… switch it out at the last turn. Watch your opponent fall to the cunning little Misdreavus!

GIFT FOR YOU– Choice Band is an item that allows you only to use one move. So why not use Trick or Switcheroo to share the fun? Now your opponent may struggle with one move instead of an array. This works equally well with Sticky Barb, Flame Orb, and Toxic Orb.

WATER DRIES UP– The power of Water-type moves are cut in half when it is sunny. Make it sunny by using Sunny Day, sending out Groudon, etc. Use it to your full advantage.

PSYCH UP DRUM– Belly Drum is a move that cuts the user’s HP, but maximizes attack. Psych Up copies a foe(or teammate’s) stat changes. Let’s take Politoed and Tangrowth. Politoed proceeds to use Belly Drum. (Make sure “Politoed” is faster than “Tangrowth”.) Tangrowth then uses Psych Up on Politoed to copy Politoed’s maxed attack stat. That’s all there is to it.

OHKO? ENSURED– Those OHKO moves, (Sheer Cold, Fissure, etc.) are so darn inaccurate, aren’t they? Not if you use Lock-on or Mind Reader first.

ROLLING ROCK– Did you know that if you use Defense Curl before using Rollout, you get twice the damage?

TOXIC TIME– Let’s use Zapdos for this.  Zapdos first starts by using Toxic. then he swithes off Protect, Detect, Protect, Detect. NOTE: This strategy hasn’t been tested… don’t chomp me if it doesn’t work…

– much more to come!

 DOUBLE BATTLE STRATEGY:

ABILITY ELIMINATION– Gastro Acid truly is a wonderful move. It eliminates effects of the target’s ability. Does anyone realize how amazing that is? Let’s say that you have Regigigas or Slaking out. (Two pokemon with utterly annoying Abilities) A helpful Cradily or Victreebel as its teammate can use Gastro Acid and eliminate it. Suddenly, Slaking can attack every turn! Regigigas has a Quick Start! This also works on opponents. Isn’t it annoying how Shedinja has to be hit with a Super-Effective move to recieve damage? Not with Gastro Acid.

LET ‘IM SWEEP– All sweepers don’t last very long. That’s why you need a supreme annoyance… Let’s take Grotle, Octillery, Skarmory, and Clefable for this example. Sending out Grotle and Clefable. Grotle battles as normal, but “Clefable” starts to use Double Team. After a good while, Clefable is all evased up. Take in mind that “Grotle” could be well over dead right now. Whatever you do, don’t send out “Octillery”. Send out “Skarmory”. Now. when “Clefable” is done raising stats, send in the “Octillery”. Octillery acts as our sweeper. Now, Clefable starts using Follow Me. Follow Me is a move that only allows the opponent to attack to user. So, if it was spieled correctly, Clefable will be almost impossible to hit, and they won’t be able to hurt “Octillery”, while he shoots tons of killer beams, blows, of the sort.

–HEALING MOVES– You all know those fun Abilities such as Water Absorb and Volt Absorb, right? Use them to your advantage. For this example, I’ll use Mantine and Vaporeon. They both know Surf. Also, they both carry the ability Water Absorb. So, the opponents use their moves and take your damage. But, since you both use Surf, the other teammate, respectively, will restore HP because they they were hit by your Surf. Seeing how Mantine and Vaporeon are both HP and defense-based Pokemon, they’ll be REALLY hard to take down. This same strategy also works with Volt-absorbers, such as Jolteon and Lanturn.

Responses

  1. Nice! You may want to consider teaching Misdreavus those moves and then evolving it into Mismagius. You can also reverse the effects of Sunny Day or Groudon by using Rain Dance or Kyogre. Also, Sunny Day raises the power of Fire-type moves and nullifies Water-type moves by 1.5 for both. Rain Dance does the exact opposite. Also, Sunny Day makes Solarbeam a one-turn move, Thunder’s accuracy becomes 50 percent, and Synthesis and Morning Sun recover all of your HP. Rain Dance, on the other hand, makes Thunder have 100 percent accuracy and Synthesis and Morning Sun restore only 25 percent of your HP. Both of these also activate abilities like Leaf Guard, Dry Skin, Chlorophyll, Hydration and Rain Dish. Hail can be activated by the move Hail or the ability Snow Warning. It makes non-Ice-type Pokemon be stricken by hail every turn, and Blizzard’s accuracy becomes 100 percent. Sandstorm makes all non-Rock, Ground or Steel-types buffeted by the Sandstorm every turn, similar to Hail. It also makes Rock-types’ Special Defense rise by 50 percent, Synthesis and Morning Sun heal you by 25 percent, Solarbeam’s power is weakened, and Thunder’s accuracy falls to 50 percent. Also, instead of using Gastro Acid, you could use Worry Seed as an alternative, except one that CHANGES your ability to Insnomia instead of nullifying it. However, say your Slaking knows Rest. It will now not be able to use it due to its Insomnia. However, you can also use this to your advantage to wreck your opponent’s Rest-Talkers, Rest-Rainers (with Hydration) and plain old Resters. But the best by far (in my opinion) is Skill Swap. Let’s say you had a Regigigas and a Blissey with the ability Serene Grace on the field, and your opponents were a physical Salamence and a Ninjask. Even for Blissey, this could be a dangerous situation. So first Salamence uses Outrage on Blissey. It survives. Blissey luckily has the item Salac Berry, which raised its Speed. Ninjask uses Swords Dance. Blissey uses Skill Swap on Regigigas. Blissey now has Slow Start, and Regigigas has Serene Grace. . Regigigas’ Attack is actually quite impressive now. Also, its chances of added effects are boosted with Serene Grace. So it uses Thunderpunch on Salamence. Not only does the super-effective, Attack-relying move leave a huge dent in its HP, but with the effects of Serene Grace, Salamence becomes paralyzed! In between turns, Ninjask gets a Speed Boost. On the next turn, Ninjask uses Protect. Regigigas uses Fire Punch on Ninjask, but it protected itself. Salamence tries to attack, but to no avail – paralysis was too much. But now is the turning point – Blissey uses Skill Swap on Salamence! Now Blissey has Intimidate, but that is of little matter. However, now Salamence has the ability Slow Start, with no way to shrug it off! So although it takes a little longer than Gastro Acid, it can be very useful. As well, if one more turn would have gone by in our little example, Blissey could have obtained Ninjask’s Speed Boost, swapping it for Intimidate, which was of no use then. It can be a helpful attack. The same with a slow Dialga or other Pokemon and Trick Room applies.

  2. Oh yeah, about Switcheroo? Try giving a Choice Band to a special sweeper, or a Choice Lens to a physical one! If your opponents have a Trick Room team, try giving one of them a Choice Scarf to ruin their plans.
